Senator Frederick E. Berry (D-Peabody) announced today that local councils on aging will receive state grants totaling $152,108 for the Second Essex District. The grants, which are distributed by the Executive Office of Elderly Affairs, will fund new and existing programs and services that the councils provide for elderly residents.
“I am always pleased when state funds directly benefit the citizens I represent,” said Senator Berry. “The local councils on aging provide a necessary service to their elderly residents. It is important that our senior citizens have access to a healthy and stimulating environment in their communities.”
The formula grant awards are based on a community’s 60 or over population.
Beverly will receive a $37,650 grant that will be used to employ a driver and dispatcher, and provide for mileage, site maintenance, service contracts, dues, conference/meeting attendance, and volunteer recognition and support.
Danvers will receive a $26,715 grant that will be used to print and distribute the Council on Aging newsletter, and employ staff for volunteer coordination, outreach, computer/clerical assistance, and as a receptionist.
Peabody will receive a $52,381 grant that will be used to employ a volunteer and educational coordinator and supplement local funding for the social service/outreach worker.
Salem will receive $35,362 grant that will be used to employ a social worker for outreach and volunteer coordination.
